| Abstract |
Ignatieff reviews two books which examine from a historical perspective the roots of Yugoslavian ethnic conflicts and the logic of ethnic self-determination. Reviewed here are "Tito and the Rise and Fall of Yugoslavia" by Richard West, and "Genocide in Bosnia: the Policy of Ethnic Cleansing" by Norman Cigar, in which it is argued that ethnic cleansing was practiced by all Bosnian factions, but it was practiced with the greatest efficiency and with the involvement of the highest political leadership by the Serbs. |
