| Abstract |
The study attempts to explain the tragic Balkan conflict as a product of a complex interaction of historical, religious and political factors; the absence of effective political institutions in new states; and the impact of extreme ethnic nationalism. International involvement in the Balkan conflicts is addressed, reviewing the peace plans that have been unsuccessfully promoted. |
