| Abstract |
The Turkish-Tataric minorities in the Balkans, southern Russia, the Baltic states, and Poland are discussed. Drawing data from a wide range of literature, a brief description of eleven distinct ethnic groups is presented, including their numbers, distribution, language, and history. The largest concentration of expatriate Turks are the 650,000 in Bulgaria. The Krimchaks, a Turkish-speaking Jewish group, were eliminated by the Nazis. |
