Abstract The author draws on 1990/91 survey data from random national samples (N unspecified) to illuminate interethnic relations in Central and Eastern Europe, treating interethnic perceptions as one of the conditions for the formation and stability of democratic systems in the region. The fairly negative attitudes toward other nations in the region indicate that future barriers to international and economical cooperation.
