| Abstract |
Romany people have a shared experience of marginalization from non-Gypsy political, social and economic life. This isolation from mainstream culture, the poverty and the institutionalized racism contribute to the poor health status of Romany women. Their need for mainstream health services is high, but few health care services address the cultural needs of Romany women, and there has been a reduction in opportunity to practice traditional medicine. Romany people also avoid government-run hospitals because of previously bad experiences with them. |
