Managing Multiethnic Communities Project
announce
Best Practice award
The Project
In the fall of 1996, LGI initiated the Ethnic Conflicts, Multicultural
Politics and Local Governance Project to identify and distribute knowledge on innovative
local policy-making practices in the fields of ethnic conflict and multicultural politics.
Specifically, the Project uncovers best practices, analyze the role of local governments
in developing these practices, and then compare and transfer the lessons learned to other
community leaders, local and regional governments, NGOs and educational institutions in
the region.
In the framework of the Project, the LGI will publicize information on
innovative practice cases of managing multiethnic communities developed and implemented in
CEE, in South-Eastern Europe and in the Newly Independent States of the former Soviet
Union.
Therefore we invite all possible contributors; local public
officials, activists, as well as researchers or other experts to share information on
innovative practices they are involved in or they have observed or investigated. All
submissions received by the LGI that meet the innovative practice criteria will be
included to the "Managing Multiethnic Communities Database" available at
the LGI web site. The database includes information sheets that consist
basic information of the good practice and a reference to the contact address of the
author so that interested users can get in touch directly with contributors for further
information or cooperation.
Best Practice Award
LGI will award authors of the best three cases with a prize every
six month, starting from June 30, 1999 to develop a full case study according to
guidelines. The first prize is 600 USD, the second prize is 500 USD and the third prize is
400 USD on the basis of the recommendation of the Expert Committee (advisory board
of the Project), the Project. All submitted information sheets will be considered
for selection. The Best Practice Award will replace case study writing grants.
